Title: The Pet and the Predator

Medium: Acrylic on canvas

Dimensions: 24”x30”

Year: 2025

The Pet and the Predator explores the unstable space where comfort, fear, dependency, and control begin to overlap. A seated figure and animal-like companion appear bound together within painted chains, making it difficult to tell where protection ends and captivity begins. Neither entirely threatening nor entirely safe, the relationship between the two figures reflects the complicated nature of emotional survival and attachment.

Bright neon colors clash against darker emotional undertones, disguising restriction beneath visual seduction. Throughout the painting, chains interrupt the bodies and surrounding space like invasive thoughts or emotional patterns that repeat endlessly. Rather than depicting a literal narrative, the work examines the ways people bond to what wounds them, protect what frightens them, and mistake familiarity for safety — where affection and danger share the same teeth.
